Position Overview/Summary

The Machinist directly contributes and supports the repair operations of the Canadian Service Centres through the inspection and repair of new and old parts to meet required specifications.  This position directly impacts the Service Centre business through providing client billable man-hours on work in shop.  The Machinist will work closely with the Millwrights in the rotor balance, steam turbine and reciprocating compressor departments to complete jobs within the clients’ time frame.

Position Qualifications (Required and Preferred)


  • Journeyman Machinist Certification or Machinist Apprentice
  • 3+ years experience as a Journeyman Machinist
  • Must be able to lift 30 kg / 75 lbs.
  • Must have a high attention to detail
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints
  • Ability to make new parts from samples without blueprint


  • Experience with manual lathes, milling machines and boring mills
  • CNC experience both in operation and programming
  • Willingness to travel across Canada for Field Operations

Position Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work safely and follow all rules and procedures
  • Use of lathes, milling machines and boring mills as well as overhead crane and forklift use
  • Attend and participate in all safety meetings
  • Attend and participate in all toolbox meetings
  • Complete all required safety training
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Report all Near-Misses, First Aids and Incidents to supervisors
  • Complete all jobs in a timely manner
  • New parts will be made from stock material and old parts will need to be machined to meet manufactures specifications
  • Support Leadhand Machinist in all functional areas
  • Perform daily a walk-around on machines and perform any minor maintenance that might be required
  • Fill out all of the required work documents
    • Specification in Process Record
    • Daily Work Progress
    • Time Sheets
  • Verify measurements of other Machinists’ work to meet ISO requirements
