Position Overview/Summary:

The Steam Turbine Specialist, West position will be responsible for developing Dresser-Rand's single stage and multistage steam turbines, provide technological leadership and direction for internal and external repairs, and deliver improved steam turbine products to meet clients’ needs and market demand.  The position directly contributes and supports the repair operations of the Canadian Field Operations through the inspection and repair of new and old parts to meet required specifications.  The Steam Turbine Specialist will primarily guide client crews on clients’ sites but may also need to work in the Service Center to complete jobs within the clients’ time frame. The Steam Specialist will play a large role in developing and growing the business with new clients and exciting clients.

Position Qualifications (Required and Preferred):

Required:

  • 5 - 7 years of related industry experience
  • A minimum of High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience with the disassembly, inspection, repair and reassembly of Single stage and Multistage Steam Turbines
  • Must have a high attention to detail
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, and read and use measuring instruments accurately
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • The ability to routinely lift at least 25 pounds (occasionally up to 50 pounds), as required to perform essential functions of the position, for up to eight hours

Preferred:

  • Supervisory experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a petro-chemical environment
  • Inter-Provincial Red Seal Journeyman Millwright or Heavy Duty Mechanic
  • Experience developing equipment installation, maintenance and overhaul schedules including working with customer for their input
  • Ability to diagnose electrical / mechanical problems quickly on running or operating machinery
Position Responsibilities and Duties:

Key Responsibility 1: Safety

  • Complete all required safety training
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Report all Near-Misses, First Aids and Incidents to supervisors
  • Completion of pre-job JSEAs

Key Responsibility 2: Job Duties

  • The willingness and ability to travel with short notice for up to 90% of the time
  • The willingness and ability to work overtime and / or irregular hours
  • The willingness and ability to work in remote locations
  • The willingness to stay in a camp location
  • Maintain good customer relations and promote Dresser-Rand products and services
  • Attend and participate in all safety meetings
  • Attend and participate in all toolbox meetings
  • As required, attend post job meetings
  • Fill out all of the required work documents Specification in Process Record Daily Work Progress Assessments Routings Time Sheets
  • Work with Project Manager and client in arranging repairs at the Service Center and outside service sites
  • Assist Project Manager in providing the client with job progress and costs as required
  • Maintain comprehensive Customer Activity Reports for client daily inspection
  • Provide Action Requests for Field Service Managers and manufacturing plant field engineering groups
  • Provide detailed Site Reports, highlight actions needed by other Dresser-Rand departments
  • Assist with equipment inspections in Canadian Service Centers, depending on the workload

Key Responsibility 3: Field Work Duties

  • Conduct mechanical overhauls and repairs on Steam Turbines. Trip and Throttle Valves, Controls and GIMPEL valves and occasionally of compressors, engines and other equipment
  • Provide technical assistance and consultation to clients’ installation, operations and maintenance personnel
  • Verify measurements of other Millwrights’ work to meet ISO requirements
  • Use of all hand tooling, precision measuring equipment and rigging.  Overhead crane and forklift use will be used
  • Will be responsible for performing repairs as required
  • Fill out all of the required work documents
    • Specification in Process Record
    • Daily Work Progress
    • Time Sheets
    • Expense reports
  • Will be responsible for performing repairs as required
  • Assist clients with new installation, commissioning and start up procedures
  • Maintain effective communication with the client
  • Must be able to stand alone and represent the company in a professional manner
  • Develop equipment installation, maintenance and overhaul schedules with client’s inputs
  • Utilized unassigned time to travel out to client’s site to see how equipment is running and look for opportunities
  • Assist in developing turbine consumable parts stocking programs
  • Promote new products and services through End Users by educating the End User on the products, how they benefit them and meet their needs
  • Training internal D-R employees as required
  • Ensure that customer installs, commissions, operates and maintains Dresser-Rand supplied equipment in accordance with OEM specifications

Key Responsibility 4: Growing and Developing the Business

  • Utilized unassigned time to travel out to client’s site to see how equipment is running and look for opportunities
  • Assist in developing turbine consumable parts stocking programs
  • Promote new products and services through End Users by educating the End User on the products, how they benefit them and meet their needs
  • Training internal D-R employees as required
